Silk Care Info

To keep your silks flowing freely for years to come, store them with reverence:

Hang them unraveled in a calm, dark space- like a wardrobe - so the fabric can breathe and relax without creasing. We like to hang them closed-staved, with the silks cascading gently from a top shelf.

Alternatively, tuck them into a soft fan bag to shield them during rest or travel. Our drawstring carriers are perfect for this (available here).

For crease-free transport, use a suit protector and hang your fans inside using clip hangers.

✧ Storage Ritual

Treat your silks as sacred:

Dance mindfully - avoid snagging them on splinters or rough edges, which may cause tears.

If a rip occurs, gently mend it with fabric glue (such as Dritz Liquid Stitch). This can also reattach silks that have peeled off the staves with time and long term use.

Avoid getting your fans wet as colours may bleed. If your fans get dirty, spot clean the small portion by dabbing or dipping each color separately into cold water with a mild silk-safe detergent. Never immerse the bamboo or let colors touch while drying as the dye may bleed whilst wet.

In humid climates, protect your silks and staves from moisture and mould by storing them in a sealed case.

✧ Protective Practices

If your silks become wrinkled, iron on the Silk setting or lowest heat with a protective cloth (available here). This really is a game changer as it will upgrade your silks aesthetic.

A loose rivet can be gently tapped back into place with a hammer. Just be careful to keep the rivet straight as to not bend the metal.

For cracked bamboo, a little tacky glue or PVC adhesive will do wonders - just allow it to dry for 24 hours.

Sunlight will naturally fade dyed silks over time. To preserve their enchantment, limit prolonged sun exposure when not in use.

With loving care and mindful use, your silks can accompany you on your journey for 3–5 years or more.

✧ Light & Longevity

✧ Anti-Static

In dry conditions your veils ma create static which makes them cling to one another - to remove the charge the best thing to do is run the veils along your hands or bare body, alternatively you can sprits them with anti-static spray

veil flag wings

When your new flag wings arrive, begin by getting to know your telescopic poles (These can be purchased separately in our shop) Practice without the veil attached to find the perfect length. Poles that are extended too far may scrape the ground or catch the ceiling, leading to damage to your veils.

Tip: When your arm is fully extended and pointing down, the pole should hover above the floor- not touch it.
